SPRING MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST: TIPS TO KEEP YOUR RV AT ITS BEST!

Spring Maintenance Checklist: Tips to keep your RV at its best!

Love is an action-word, we’ve all heard that before. Well, we couldn’t agree more. Do you LOVE your RV and all the fun and adventure it brings to you and your family year after year? We know you do, so why not ensure many more years of optimal enjoyment to come by adding some of the following steps to your spring maintenance plan! With the nice weather and camping season just around the corner, there’s no time like the present to get ready for more adventures starting this spring!

Here are some tips to keep your RV in tip-top shape this spring:

As far as your exterior goes, it’s always a good idea to check for any damage to the roof, vents, skylights, and other outside accessories – especially after our oh-so-Canadian winters.

  • Extend all awnings and cloth accessories to check for mould, mildew or deterioration. There are many great products you can use to clean, protect, and refinish your RV along the way.
  • Check out the electrical components of your RV and ensure no outside visitors have chewed or caused damage to your shore line, etc. Batteries should be checked for proper polarity and proper fluid levels. Always use caution and follow all safety procedures. Or you can visit your local RV service centre and they will be happy to help.
  • Check the expiration dates, fuel level, and overall condition of your propane tanks. Again, it is advisable to contact your local RV servicing centre to have a timed pressure drop and LPG regulator lockup test performed on your RV. This will ensure a safe, leak-free system.
  • Check your tires for wear and tear. If cracking or separation is visible – repair or replacement is highly recommended.
  • Always check your brake function and lug nuts. Check wheel bearings if necessary and ensure any parts requiring lubrication are adequately greased, such as your steps, compartments, locks, awning, and hinges.
  • Check the anode rod in your hot water tank and replace if over 70% of it is missing.
  • Make sure your water heater bypass valves are in the correct position.
  • Be sure to check over any tow vehicle or motorhome chassis, hitch components, electrical plugs, etc.
  • Check your roof and all seals on roof and around windows, compartments, and seams to make sure they are still working properly and your RV is free from water leaks. Some RV service centres have terrific equipment that can test your RV with air pressure and or sonic waves to find leaks. This service costs around couple hundred dollars and gives piece of mind by helping to find hidden leaks that may cause potential water damage in your RV.

Taking these easy steps will not only help to keep your RV in good condition, but proper maintenance will also add resale value for the future!
