Don’t pack up your motorhome or fifth wheel trailer just yet. Have you ever tired winter camping? Camping during the colder months is an awesome way to embark on a truly Canadian vacation! If you are thinking about camping in the winter, Outdoor Travel has some tips for you…
Insulation: Most RVs are suited to use well into the late autumn and early spring, but some can handle winter use too. Some RVs have a level of insulation and extra heating systems that enable winter use. These are usually motorhomes, fifth wheels and toy haulers. When a manufacturer considers its product a four seasons RV it usually means it is rated for zero degrees Fahrenheit which is approximately minus seventeen degrees Celsius. Check the literature to verify if an RV is winter rated, it is usually mentioned.
Drinking water: Four season RVs will have some kind of heating for the plumbing system. If you are looking at extended winter use sometimes extra foam insulation can be added to exterior water compartments. If your camping trip is going to be short, you may want to consider just packing bottled water.
Snow: If a heavy snowfall occurs, you may want to consider cleaning off the roof of your RV. Most RVs have crowned roofs so snow should run off but take a look after a heavy snow fall. You may also want to clean the walkway to your RV so there’s an accessible path to enter and exit.
